What do you do?
I had a fairly well-known political blog between about 2005 and 2010. After a long break, I am starting again and am simply looking for someone to design a professional header for the top of my new web site. I don't need help with the web site design as I am competent there technically -- just not with the main banner at the top of my site.
The site will focus on news coverage of the United States Senate and general political commentary. The banner on my old site -- which my readers and I really liked -- can be seen at http://bobgeiger.blogspot.com/
But, given that I am completely color-blind (seriously) and have no artistic taste, I am very open to suggestion as long as it is a clean design that looks seriously political and "Congressional".
Describe the target audience for your header design
The demographic for my writing has been well-educated people who are in Congress, on Congressional staff, activists and those who just love reading about politics.
Does your header need to be a specific size?
That's a good question. I think it should give me flexibility and be of sufficient resolution to look good at either the top of a Wordpress blog, Twitter or Facebook.
What is your industry?
Publishing and Media
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your header design?
- Serious coverage of the United States Senate by a reporter who knows the subject matter inside and out
- A Washington/Congressional feel
- Boldness and not afraid to express an opinion
Style and Concept
What header design styles do you like?
(My old site... I really liked the effect of the capitol building smeared across the bottom of the banner... So maybe something like this but that looks less 2007 and more 2017.)
What colors do you want to see in your header design?
I tend to favor darker colors but I think my view is skewed by my complete color blindness. So I am entirely open to suggestion. The header should suggest seriousness and gravitas but it can also bend slightly toward not taking itself too seriously. Ultimately the content will do the talking so the header just has to tell what the site is and look great. If the designers believe that something clean with a white background will give me more flexibility in using the graphic in other ways, that's cool too.
What colors do you NOT want to see in your header design?
Nothing is off limits.
What adjectives should best describe your header design?
Bold, accurate, tough, opinionated
What content must be included in the header design?
This is really a clean slate at this point... I think the only requirement is either the text "BoldPolitics.com" or just "Bold Politics" -- I'm open to either one.
Do you have additional requirements or links you'd like to share?
No, I am very open on this design
