What do you do?
I am launching a lifestyle website for moms: http://www.ohlalamum.com.
Describe the target audience for your header design
Generally, the vibe of the site will be chic, casual, fun, unexpected, a bit exotic, a bit quirky, a bit bohemian. I am designing a lifestyle website for chic, urban, busy moms. I collate content from around the web and pair it with my own original content with the aim of providing accessible, user-friendly content quickly for moms without an abundance of time to surf the web/blogs. I will present curated content along with my own content in the following areas: personal antidotes (e.g. "muse"); travel, "it" list (best children's products in a variety of categories), wear (clothing); play (toys, party ideas, etc), eat (recipes), create (ideas for a variety of projects including holiday projects), and SF Love (random pictures and antidotes from around SF). These categories are not set in stone and may be changed before I launch. But, the content will follow these parameters.
Does your header need to be a specific size?
Width should be 949 pixels. I would prefer something that is not too large as I do not want it to eat into too much of my page space. As you will see when you go to my site, I have a slider at the top of the page and then featured articles. I want the slider to still be prominent beneath the header and also want my readers to be able to see some of the first article.
What is your industry?
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your header design?
I want to come across as knowledgable, friendly, internationally-minded, chic, and laid-back (e.g. I don't want to appear to be a know-it-all but do want to appear professional). I want to evoke a calm, enticing, friendly feeling.
Style and Concept
What header design styles do you like?
I would like something simple yet striking. I would like it to add some color to my otherwise neutral site. I think I want a white background but am not 100% sure so if you have other ideas, please submit them as I am relatively open.
What colors do you want to see in your header design?
I really like the idea of a header using yellow (bright so it will show up well on computer screens) and grey, although I am very open to other ideas.
What colors do you NOT want to see in your header design?
While I am not opposed to any color scheme, I would prefer to stay away from anything too typical, expected, over-done or "sweet" (e.g. extensive use of bring pinks).
What adjectives should best describe your header design?
chic, casual, fun, unexpected, a bit exotic, a bit quirky, a bit bohemian, international
What content must be included in the header design?
Site Name: Oh la la Mum
