Associated Colleges of the Midwest (ACM)
What do you do?
We are a non-profit, educational consortium of 14 small, residential liberal arts colleges that provides opportunities to their students, faculty, and staff. We have two primary roles: administering a portfolio of study abroad and off-campus programs for students, as well as providing a wide range of professional development opportunities for faculty and staff leaders.
Do you have a desired email template size?
Standard size for use with MailChimp (600 pixel width). See this page for more details: http://kb.mailchimp.com/campaigns/image-...
Which third party email vendor do you use to send emails?
What is your industry?
Education and Universities
Describe the target audience for your email template design
College students who are considering one of our study abroad or domestic off-campus programs around the world. (Note: Well also be using a slightly modified version of the template you create for messages to faculty and staff at our colleges about these same programs, and about professional development opportunities. So, the look and feel should be appropriate for both of these audiences.)
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your email template design?
- This message is coming from ACM
- That ACM programs offer very useful ways for students to achieve their academic and personal growth goals (by presenting evidence through very short stories about current students on the programs and their activities )
- That ACM programs are current, relevant, interesting, appealing, and fun
Style and Concept
What email template design styles do you like?
Open and inviting, easy to read, and engagingperhaps aesthetic consistency with our website (www.acm.edu). Were open to seeing what you present to us.
What colors do you want to see in your email template design?
Our logo contains green and blue, so wed like those to be the primary colors. Tan/light brown would be a possible secondary color, or potentially a light yellow/cream. Please see our website www.acm.edu to get an idea of the color palette. The blue and green dont necessarily have to precisely match the same shade in our logo (though we like them)if necessary you can use shades that work well with the template youre creating.
What colors do you NOT want to see in your email template design?
Wed like to stick with the palette of colors mentioned above. That would mean trying to avoid colors like red, maroon, purple, and orange.
What adjectives should best describe your email template design?
Crisp, clean, modern, dynamic, inviting, educational, global, professional, fresh, engaging, informative, easy to read, inviting
What content must be included in the email template design?
We want the ACM logo and our tagline of Expand your world. prominently featured (logo files have been uploaded). We also want 4 permanent links which are a standard part of the template and never changeeach of these links should have some type of eye-catching graphic or photo element for readers to click:
- Student blog page: www.acm.edu/blogs
- Off-Campus programs page: www.acm.edu/programs
- Application link: www.acm.edu/apply
- Facebook link: www.facebook.com/acmoffcampus
(Note: A Facebook button icon has been uploaded which you can use, or please feel free to create something on your own.)
There must also be a footer, where we will include our standard footer information (address, unsubscribe, etc).
Within the body of the messages we send, we want to be able to easily include small thumbnail photos with short paragraphs of text that talk about our different programs (rather than just include teaser text that then continues on our website). The average length of a typical e-mail we send is 350-450 words (though some are shorter or longer), and would ideally include a small photo with each of 3-5 stories.
Do you have additional requirements or links you'd like to share?
Well also want to make a modified version of this template to use for messages to our faculty and staff partners at the colleges (about the study away programs for their students and about professional development opportunities for the faculty). Wed like to use the same overall structure of the template youre creating for us, but swap out a couple of the permanent links in the template for different ones for our faculty/staff audience. This is either something we will modify ourselves once weve got this student template, or we might work with you to have you make a couple of slight revisions for an additional consulting fee. Wed like the overall template feel you create for this project to be ultimately appropriate for both students and faculty/staff at our colleges.
Wed like our template to be easily readable on mobile devices. We realize that designing for both web and mobile viewing can be a challenge, so wed just like to make sure you consider this as you create the template.
Wed also like the space surrounding the template to be white. We used one in the past with a colored background around the template, and when people would forward the e-mail, it would make the forwarded message difficult to read, with a color filling the whole background of the new message. Wed like to avoid that, and make sure that forwarded versions of our e-mails look nice and clean.
