What do you do?
Self-published author using bookbaby.com
How many pages of illustration do you need?
Just one. I needan artist to make the cover art for the second book in my series called TheStory of Evil Volume II: Escape from Celestial. I had the first book's cover art done bysomeone who was on crowdspring and wanted them to do every cover in the series (sothat the style, theme, and titles looked the same), but I no longer can findthem on the website.
Does your illustration need to be a particular size?
Yes, attached will be the cover dimensions needed so that it fitsthe book. Thebook is 5.5 x 8.5. Attached is a cover template from bookbaby.com that you can use so that the spineand art will all match up perfectly. This is very important. We don't want the spinecolors of the book showing on the front or back which can happen if thedimensions listed in the attachment aren't followed.
What is your industry?
Publishing and Media
Describe the target audience for your illustration
A book geared towards teenagers-adults.
What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your illustration?
I want the image to stand out, like my first cover did, and make people who are interested in fantasy books to think it's cool and pick the book up to look at it further.
Style and Concept
What illustration styles do you like?
not too cartoony
What colors do you want to see in your illustration?
black in the dragon, yellow in the lightning, a nighttime sky, more is listed in attachment.
What do you need illustrated?
SEE THE ATTACHMENT NAMED "COVER ARTIST" FOR MORE DETAILS. Onthe first book the design is a jouster, but for this cover I want the image to be a huge, black dragon, its heavy body hanging down in the air, butits giant black wings are extended because it is supporting itself as ithovers. In the book this black dragon'sname is called Nightstrike. It is alsoknown as "the Dark Dragon" because it is colored black. The dragon isshooting yellow lightning from his mouth (In the book the main characters are hidingin a forest called Whitebark Woods (with red, yellow, and orange leaves onwhite bark trees) while this giant black dragon is shooting down lightning fromhis mouth, trying to kill them). The dragon's eyes are bright yellow (the samecolor as it's lightning in it's mouth). However, the woods underneath are notnecessary, but are optional.
If possible add rain to the image because in the book it is rainingand there is lighting in the dark, nighttime sky as Nightstrike is shootingblasts of lightning. Below are some pictures I found which could serve asinspiration. (For your artwork, however, you need to own it, or it needs to beoriginal, since my book will be for sale and I don't want to be making moneyoff work that is not your own is illegal). Nightstrike has huge spikes on hisback, large wings, and a long, spiked tail.
It is very important to me that the cover for the second book has asimilar set-up and aesthetic to that of the first book. I have attached thefirst cover and additional files to help. Some requirements are:
The "Story of Evil" title font must be the same as thefirst book and in the same location. I have attached a file which has thetitle.
The "Tony Johnson" author's name which I believe is inTrajan font, must be in the same location as the first book.
The spine of the color is important and I would like it to be thesame fabric looking material if possible (if you zoom in on the first book youcan see it better). I would also like the spine's text font and size to be thesame.
I would like the bronze subtitle to look the same if this ispossible. (however I'm not sure what the font for this was. It might also beTrajan.
The subtitle is: Volume II: Escape from Celestial
What adjectives should best describe your illustration?
Action, hovering, power
How will you use your illustration?
It will be the cover of the second book in my series and will be sold through amazon, barnes and noble, as well as appear in ebook form.
What content must be included in the illustration?
The title art that matches the first book is most important. The spine colors are also important. Everything is pretty much listed out in detail in the attachment.
