Who are you?

I'm 42, and grew up in Tennessee in the mountains of Appalachia. Currently working in higher education, I've been a teacher, a principal, and projects director for a US congressman. I've presented in a variety of venues domestically and internationally. I'm a learning and leadership fanatic and volunteer as an advocate for people who learn differently.

I've co-authored for peer reviewed professional journals and recently co-authored Tennessee's "Dyslexia is Real" bill that passed the Tennessee House and Senate unanimously. I'm a self-described public policy geek committed to helping people lead purple. To me, that means leading everyone on the team regardless of their political beliefs or their personal biases. Community service, movies, reading, surfing the web, spending time with family and friends, church, a cold, fizzy, Dr. Enuf soda, and a great cup of coffee are just a few things that keep him sane! Purple People Leader is my first non-fiction book. While I work in education, this book is not necessarily geared toward education but anyone who is interested in leadership, politics, inspiration, and community service.

What is your industry?

Consulting and Professional Services

What do you need?

I work in education as a university administrator, and I'm a known education speaker in the teaching/education realm etc. I'm trying to transition my brand to leadership expert. I'm interested in a full book cover (front back spine). This is a non-academic, 9x6 standard nonfiction book. I've designed it to be a quick easy read. It's still in formatting but the book is around 175 pages total with front and back matter included. These are the words that would describe my ideal book cover: classic, minimalist, retro yet modern, inspirational. The book is part leadership book and part personal memoir consisting of tips, principles, and personal stories. It seeks to change perspectives and encourages people to lead without bias, and the book ends with a call to action for republicans and dems to join together for community service projects to restore trust, goodwill, and relationships. I need a book cover that conveys the message of leading everyone in spite of their political beliefs, blue+red=purple. This is for Createspace/Amazon/Kindle. The title of the book is: "Purple People Leader: How to Protect Unity, Release Politics & Lead Everyone: Inspiration Wisdom & Tips for Leading Purple". The secondary subtitle: "Inspiration, Wisdom & Tips for Leading Purple" can be at the bottom of the cover, and can certainly be less prominent, maybe smaller, maybe italics.

Who Is Your Audience?

People interested in leadership, politics, and service. Most likely 18-40. People who are put out with negative political rhetoric, people interested in teamwork to get things done, people looking for ways to handle office, family, or national politics and lead everyone. People looking to be inspired.

We Like These Examples

First of all you can always read more about the book by going to purplepeopleleaderbook.com.
Im very open to your ideas.
What do I like?
I really like classic minimalist style covers.
I like the idea of some concept or graphic with red meeting blue---drops of red and drops of blue turning into purple, similar to water drops maybe? Not hung up on that at all just an idea.
But, I would also be happy with a simple off white and purple cover with simple lettering, and again it might also be cool to see something red and something blue transitioning to something purplemaybe its the title or one of the subtitles?

Which kind of purple do I like? Deep purple is my fave. I like the idea very deep purple while still being able to discern that its purple and not blue.

Modern/Minimal, with a touch of classic or retro feel is good for me. Less is more, but dont be scared to be creative!

1. How Starbucks Saved My Life (Colored Edge and Classic minimal lettering) This one is number one because its my fave. I like that its simple, modern, but retro at the same time.

2. Becoming a Genuine Leader (I like this one because the art spills over the back cover for a cool effect). http://www.amazon.com/Becoming-Genuine-L...

3. Common Sense Management (I just like the graphic, but I do not like the darkness of the cover)

4. Monday Morning Motivation (I like the outline color around the edges on this one)

Author Information for back of the page. Id like author info to be at the bottom:

Dr. Chester Goad grew up in Scott County, Tennessee in the mountains of Appalachia. A learning and leadership fanatic, Chester has led non-profit boards and volunteers as an advocate for people who learn differently. A self-described public policy geek, he is committed to teaching others the art of leadership without bias. Through his Purple Project Initiative, Chester attempts to restore goodwill by bringing local Democrats and Republicans together for community service projects. Chester has presented both internationally and domestically and lives in Tennessee on the Cumberland Plateau with his wife and teenage son.

We Absolutely Must Have

This book cover must be compatible with Createspace because it will be used with Amazon print and Kindle. The book is a 9x6 standard sized book. While still in formatting the book is approximately 175 pages. A minimalist retro yet modern feel. I like the idea of lots of white (off white is totally fine)--especially on the spine. I would love the cover to somehow bring red and blue together to create purple. (In the US political system, red typically symbolizes republicans or conservatives and blue represents democrats or liberals. The idea is for leaders not to see blue and red, but to see people as people. Purple. For me being purple is not about being moderate, but being willing to change your perspective.
