We Like These Examples
I'm don't want to go into this project with any preconceived notions but I was thinking the cover depicting a specific scene in the story. A regal golden eagle, large and prominent on the cover, wings spread, being shown flying over a city (dark and sinister looking), the background would be in gray/shades of gray. See attached skeletal mockup in the materials. Also, I've attached the short story itself. Obviously, reading it would. It would certainly help understand the importance of the golden eagle, the city, and the gray.
Note, the uploaded version is not the complete short, key spoilers and the ending have been removed.
A chess motif would probably not get my attention.
