Gissin\u2019s company Kalisaya (named after an Incan word used to describe energy from the sun) has developed the KaliPAK. The KaliPAK is an easily portable, lightweight and rechargeable solar-powered generator.<\/p>\n
Although the idea grew from a desire to have a convenient power source for recreational travel, the KaliPAK\u2019s debuted with the Israeli Air Force Humanitarian Rescue Mission for Global Disaster Areas. In <\/span>an interview with The Next Web<\/span><\/a>\u00a0Gissin shares, <\/span><\/p>\n“They needed power in disaster areas to set up a field hospital. We recruited some multi-talented people \u2013 Industrial designers, electronic and mechanical engineers and disaster-recovery experts \u00a0\u2013 and we built some prototypes.”<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\nThis experience helped to reveal the KaliPAK\u2019s true value. <\/span>Gissin points out<\/span><\/a> that the first infrastructure to fail in cases of natural emergency is the electrical grid. The KaliPAK can help to restore power in emergency situations, making it an essential piece of emergency equipment for both emergency support services and home consumers. The foundation established scholarships for students from the regions and built learning centers. The AOF also created agricultural training programs and donates to the Spanish Federation of Food Banks.<\/span><\/p>\nMore recently, Ortega has turned his attention to cancer research- initially focusing close to Ortega\u2019s home. In 2015 Ortega <\/span>donated $18 million<\/span><\/a> to provide cancer screening devices to hospitals in Galicia.
