Small Business Spotlight of the Week: Stinglight Photography

There comes a time in everyone’s life where it seems like everyone they know gets married. That time in my life is now. I feel pretty comfortable in saying that I’m kind of an expert by default when it comes to weddings.  And if there’s one thing I’ve come to the conclusion that you should never skimp out on, whether you’re eloping or having a 500 guest bash, is the wedding photographer.  Yes, pictures are worth a thousand words… they are also definitely worth a couple thousand dollars for beautiful, original, and lovely shots.

If you live near Villach, Austria, we’re happy to introduce this week’s Small Business Spotlight,  Stinglight Photography, to you.  Headed by Stefan and Ingrid, two of the coolest photographers you’ll ever meet, provide engagement, wedding, baby, and portrait photography.  And wow, are these pictures gorgeous. Both candid shots and posed have a perfect blend of professional aesthetics and individual personality. Stefan and Ingrid also love taking road trips– in both Europe and the United States– so, if you play your cards right, you could snag these two to show up on your doorstep with a camera to capture your special day.

Stefan and Ingrid share more below about the photography business:

How would you explain what you do to somebody’s grandmother?

We love people and want to capture them in love! A picture has to tell a story, especially at weddings, because it has to last for lifetime and bring back good memories in your mind every time you have a look at your pictures.

What are some industry specific challenges you faced?

The wedding photography industry is growing very fast. You have to define your style and work hard to satisfy your customers, be successful, and take care not to be overrun by your competitors.

What was your biggest learning curve/experience?

Our experience was: be the person who you are! It means, especially in contacting people or meeting them, be funny, be positive, have a smile, and simply be you. Customers see that and like that.

What’s the craziest story you have from starting your own business?

After attending a workshop of an industry leader, we planned to do some sightseeing and shooting. The industry leader joined us spontaneously and was sitting there in our car! We had a very special experience to see how such a guy works.

What made you use crowdspring?

We got a recommendation from one of our friends. We tried it and loved it!

If you could go back, would you do anything differently? If so, what and why?

First of all, we think we did things well. The first steps are always not very easy and sometimes tricky. The only thing we can recommend is to search for a mentor, who will give you compressed information you will need for your business. It costs something, but will save you lots of time.

How do you see your company growing in the future?

During the wedding season there is not so much time to do big things.  But, we have a big to-do list, which we will work on in the next months. One goal is to advertise more and expand our market.

Six words of advice to those looking to start their own company.

Be outstanding and love what you do!
