Donability is a crowdfunding platform specifically designed to fundraise causes. Meaning, you know that 5k you want to gather pledges for? Post it to Donability and appeal to the masses on the internet. Have your own, specific non-profit you’re running and you need some extra cash? Take it to Donability. You get the picture.
Felipe took some time to tell me a little bit more about crowdfunding donations:
How would you explain what you do to somebody’s grandmother?
I work on Donability, a website that collects money online for supporting causes. Main focus is social causes but we also work with personal causes.
What made you use crowdSPRING?
Time and options. We are in a hurry to launch the beta version by November, if it wasn’t for crowdSPRING, we would still be stuck on our logo.
What are some industry specific challenges you faced?
Finding the right niche and innovation points. There are a lot of crowdfunding startups coming up, we had to work a lot on market research to find our niche, with more ‘blue ocean’. Also, innovation points, it’s a big concern, we will deliver features that no other competitor has already thought of.
What was your biggest learning curve/experience?
We are novices in the crowdfunding scene, well, not now. But when we started, we knew little about this market. So all the research surrounding that we have done to study the competitors and to work on our features. It was the biggest learning experience. Now we can develop a product that fits users needs.
What’s the craziest story you have from starting your own business?
It’s funny because Donability has partners all over the world– Brazil, US, France. So the first Skype conferences was crazy to find the perfect timing. Not only because of everyone’s appointments, but because it got a little bit confusing to match everyone’s time zone.
Six words of advice to those looking to start their own company.
Work hard, have an innovative business model.
If you could go back, would you do anything differently? If so, what and why?
Nothing to regret, if we did something wrong, we learned from it.
What’s your working relationship like now with the crowdSPRING designer’s project you chose?
We are considering briefing him about the layout design for the Homepage. We developed a strong relationship in the logo development process, he was very attentive to all our needs and was very good justifying his proposals.
How do you see your company growing in the future?
We see our company helping people all around the world with a wide collaborators network. In the future, we will work with brands and celebrities, where we expect to increase our visibility. In the first stage, we will keep following the the rule “think global, act local.” Our campaigns will stay hyperlocal, by neighborhoods, allowing a map visualization in the near future. In the meanwhile, we will also start working with global campaigns.
We are committed to focus our efforts on supporting people fundraising their campaigns, and if they are successful, it’s a great indication we are doing a good job.
