Creative brief

The buyer added updates to the brief. Read them.

Business Name

gingkoapp.com

What do you do?

Gingko is a word processor that lets you write in "tree documents", which are like outlines, but more powerful.

We want Gingko to be the standard medium of communication and collaboration for the knowledge economy.

Gingko is made up of cards in a hierarchy, and we are finding it a challenge to design these cards in a way that fits all our criteria.

Do you have a desired widget or app screen size?

We are targeting desktop for now, most likely larger ones (1920x720)

How many pages do you need designed?

1

What is your industry?

Software and InfoTech

Describe the target audience for your widget or app

Tech saavy authors, project managers, screenwriters.

What are 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your widget or app design?

There are three cards, and the page background, that need styling according to the following:

1. Elegant Typography.
We want elegant typography designed for the card class. Any font can be used for the title and body, though we'd prefer free fonts, or those from Google Web Fonts (or similar resources).

2. Visual Hierarchy. We need a clear visual hierarchy for the three cards, without changing sizes or fonts. Foreground and background colors, BG textures, borders, glows & highlights... anything else goes, as long as it looks clean and consistent.

3. Card-like. We want the cards to be clearly separate from the background. This can be achieved with any combo of BG color or texture, card box-shadows, or anything else you might think up.

What widget or app design styles do you like?

What colors do you want to see in your widget or app design?

This is a word processor, which can be used for anything, so the colors must be subdued. Nothing too distracting. Our logo has this green: #8cc63f

What colors do you NOT want to see in your widget or app design?

Brown, blood red, pink.

What adjectives should best describe your widget or app design?

"Powerful and elegant tool" not "Beautiful toy."

What content must be included in the widget or app design?

We simply need the PSD template attached to be redone with a new design.

Do you have additional requirements or links you'd like to share?

Further requirements can be found in the template file.

I've added a few screenshots from our own colorscheme tests. You can see that we tried high-contrast, low-contrast. And with color, or without.

To clarify: the top card is the *focused* card, the middle one is less important, and the bottom one is *least* important.

Focused one should draw the eye towards it, and be clearly distinguished from the others.

(Sorry that I forgot to include this in the brief).

*Important update*:
In my brief, I forgot to mention this (sorry!):

Many of the designs I received are good for 3 cards on a page. But the app will have many cards on a page, like this: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/bu2lcudleut...

Because there are many cards, it's important to keep the "visual noise" to a minimum.

Thanks, and sorry that I wasn't clear before. Live and learn :)

1) Sorry, I am too close to the project so I forget to mention the basics.
This is a kind of WORD PROCESSOR so I want it to look somewhat neutral. It's the user's content (words & images) that should be the focus, not the cards or the BG or the UI.

2) For those of you who have gone beyond the call of duty, and created an account to see the app itself, I salute you!

Also, I urge you to use this link, as it's the latest version:
