To whom it may concern:

I have worked closely with Ken Hawk for more than seven years on both print and web publications. He is industrious, persistent, and quietly principled. He has consistently produced high-quality graphic designs without detracting from the content they were meant to adorn (and sometimes frame).

The independent arts have had a huge effect on Hawk, and they inform most everything he does. But don’t mistake independence for sovereignty. He is supportive and instinctual as an artist, and he is collaborative by nature. As a freelancer, his designs are his clients’ designs, his art is his clients’ art, his images are his clients’ images.

The ideas and visions presented to him by his clients are filtered and arranged on the canvass(es) of their choosing. Part of the filtering process is an enhancement of the original ideas and visions, an embellishment of the fundamental thought behind the project. It is this partnership that allows for the creation of pieces that are truly interactive and functional.

Along with independent art, intellectual and professional pursuits have hardened Hawk’s creative foundations. He graduated from Westmoreland County Community College in 1999 with an associate’s degree in electronic publishing and imaging. He then worked for NuMedia Design (Mount Pleasant, Pa.) from 2000 to 2002 as an assistant designer. In 2003, he matriculated to Seton Hill University, where he graduated with a BFA in graphic design in 2005. During 2002 to 2005, he completed several large freelance graphic design projects for three different clients. He currently works for Direct Response Technologies (Pittsburgh) as a graphic artist.

Booyah achieved.

Tim Holsopple
manateeBound Publishing
