I have moved to Millbrook, NY with my two children, 8 and 12, after living in Manhattan for 20 years...I am originally from Guatemala, but grew up in Tennessee on a horse farm. I want my children to experience the healthy life of growing your own organic food and raising animals...taking care of animals, seeing births, and connecting to what is real...with a purpose in mind. We want our experience to contribute to preserving rare and threatened farm animals, as we can clearly see that protecting these endangered animals is also important for our own health. Many of the animals we will have are listed under the American Livestock Breeds Conservancy. We intend on developing a large organic garden and planting an orchard of fruit trees from which we will be canning, dehydrating and sharing from it's production. We have a small green house where we will be sprouting, as well, and we are composting for the garden. Freedom Farms will be as self sustainable as we are able to make it. I feel this is our family's way of making a difference and contributing, hopefully educating while creating our own family domain. I hope this is helpful.
