see more - I am a graphic designer and a writer. Besides poetry and essays, my favorite writing is feature writing, where I can delve into interesting lives - sharing the details of unique personalities and experiences.I have several published articles. I truly enjoy the process of getting to know people and sharing who they are with others.
This is why I love graphic design. I enjoy the process of discerning how my clients visualize their own businesses or companies and then collaborating to create an image that creatively expresses that character to the rest of the world.
I also enjoy the challenge of considering how the design will potentially need to work with all the practical uses for it. In other words, it's not enough to simply come up with a design that represents the purpose and character of a business. The logo - or a recognizable portion of it - must also be usable in print (black & white, if necessary), in large format (billboards? busses? posters? which would require the design to be rendered as a vector graphic), on letterhead and business cards, and on the web - which favors maintaining transparencies.
In 1997 I published a monthlly magazine for and by children in Iowa, and I have worked as a professional graphic designer ever since.
I've been hired as an in-house designer for very large companies (such as MidAmerican Energy and Holmes Murphy) and as the graphic design coordinator for a life insurance investment company - where I designed brochures, logos, annual reports, booklets, sales postcards, etc...
For the past 10 years, I've worked freelance for varied sized businesses and non-profits (I am in the process of adding some of my previous work to my "Portfolio" tab on this site, so keep checking back!).
Throughout my career, I've designed most every type of collateral piece imaginable (logos are my specialties) but I truly love all types of projects.
