Apologies for me being wrong about the text logo. But is it in a font that will be readily available to most browsers (eg: IE7 or FF) working on different operating systems (eg: Mac or PC). If it is then I'm very happy!
Please don't leave out areas like some of the others. (But do feel free to mix up the blocks.) I'll be commenting to everyone now that I will want all the blocks in the final submission.
Thank you for the comments. I will follow your instructions and design a revised version. But just to let you know that the logo is all text, there are no graphics in it. I made sure of it, due to your other comments. And I have a question, in order to free up room can I leave out areas like others have or do you want all the areas on the homepage?
Many thanks for your post. I'm really mixed up about this one - there's some great original thought but there are also some things that just don't work for me! Let me explain:
- the title bar is darker than I was imagining but I think it works.
- the site title has to be in text. It's OK to add a graphic logo or even have the title repeated in a logo but the title must appear at least once in text (for SEO purposes as much as anything else)
- I think the font on the 'Register'...'Login' links is too big
- the font(s) for the rest of the site are nicely chosen. Clear, business-like and easy to read.
- I like the placement of the sponsors logo
- the breadcrumb bar is very nicely implemented. Bold and clear.
- I don't like the boxes around all the blocks. I think the crowd the site too much.
- I do like your excellent clear tabs on the 'Most Popular News' block. The ones on the 'Latest Discussions' block are similar but not quite as nice.
- I don't like the 'View Profile' buttons on the 'Contributing Experts' block
- I love the way you moved the 'Resource Centre' (UK spelling please!) to the left column. It really works. And I like all the icons in this block - particularly the icon for 'Find An Advisor'
Overall I feel there are some great ideas in this post but I think it feels a little crowded and overwhelming. Perhaps it needs more space around the blocks and (maybe) a little more color.
