I think this is a classic design and I really like the large book and space for the header and menu detailing.
I think this design is really used to hold a lot of information that might not be there for the site when it launches (see the addition on the design brief at the bottom).
If you go further with this design it would be great to see with a minimum (a couple of paragraphs) of content.
