Thank you for the detailed and informative feedback: it's a phenomenon that's all too rare in these competitions. Unfortunately, it also appears to reinforce a growing suspicion I have that there is a generational gap in the interpretation of symbols, which is to say that there appears to be a lot more literalism attacked to graphics today as opposed to when I was coming of age in the 1960s.

A literal interpretation of the icon may well be protection FROM flames, but its intent--and an equally plausible inference--is that it represents a protection OF a flame--that is, A PASSION--that one carries and one nurtures; however, if the latter interpretation isn't immediately obvious, then it's not doing the job.

Thanks for the opportunity to participate, but here is where that participation ends. I have examined the three and four star entries, and I don't have a clue where the conceptual connection among them lies...again, probably just a generational thing...

There's a strong sense that this is a fire insurance logo - something that (oddly) I don't think this client sells. They're a generalist firm, so any overt reference to a particular type of insurance would cause problems if people were scanning to buy (in this instance) property and casualty coverage.

Stylistically it's got potential. I like the measured gaps between the flames and the fact that you didn't just copy the same image three times.

The font is okay, though the middle W shouldn't be capitalized.

Your style is interesting. I'd welcome another submission if you have an idea that can connect with a story. (Check the *** and **** entries for an idea of what works for us.)

Disclosure: I created everything in my entry and I didn't copy anyone else's concept. (?)
