The discrepancy may be because we haven't seen anyone approach the style we were looking for initially in a way that worked for us.
Your option one is interesting, though may be too fine to work on a small scale (the perspective would be lost, I think.)
Please note that the emphasis is on the first word rather than the second.
The second option feels too restrained - not enough story, wonder, or the like.
Of the two the first option logo is far preferable. Can you tell us how you see it being used?
Don't worry about color for now. If you must use some I'd suggest deep purples, any range of blues, and deep browns. We want a sense of purpose here rather than razzle-dazzle. It doesn't need to scream security (which I know most of these colors tend to do) but those are the palettes that seem to be working for us initially. I imagine a deep red could go well for emphasis...
Casual vs. serious is not a real factor for us, though I suspect anything too extreme on either side wouldn't work. The ability for it to support the story and brand is by far the most significant factor. Depth of interpretation and use is probably second on the list...
Disclosure: I created everything in my entry and I didn't copy anyone else's concept. (?)
From your brief, I kinda get the impression your looking for a very formal appeal to your identity, hence the reason why I am submitting conservative designs. But I am seeing designs with variety of color and casual approaches receiving better ratings. Could you please guide me with color preferences if you have, and how casual/serious does the design need to be?
