I changed the type style, combining lowercase "AS Sign Gothic" w/ all caps "Helvetica". The combination creates a nice separation between words and a more "timeless" feel. I placed the 5 color bar under "thumb" - one color under each letter to convey multiple people participating in one cohesive exchange.
The colors are distinct yet complement each other. I kept a subtle "conversation spike" on the color bar to still convey conversation.
I included the same two color palettes you liked.
Any more feedback is highly appreciated.
