I like the idea of the stars, but gold stars among military families signify service members who have died.
I'd also like the typography to be a little more focused. The top version is a little better than the bottom one.
The ship graphic here is too detailed for me. I'm worried about how it would reproduce. I'd be interested in seeing something a little more stylized, and I think it would give the logo a little fresher look.

I went with an image of a Navy ship. The one with the stars makes me think of how when they are at sea, they are looking at the same stars as their families.
