I love this design and already you are one of the front runners. My only issue is that I'm not convinced that the combination of the blue with green is the right color tone for me. I like the professionalism of this design and the simple icon with the triangles is something that I could see being very flexible.
Last point ... the blog header seems to have a bit too much white space - especially since the rest of the page is white. I'd love to have the header stand out a bit more if possible. Of your two designs - I like the font choice and shape of this one better than your other design.
