Thank you for the specific , well described details of this project. After some consideration, I feel the logo should reflect it's final purpose, so I incorporated a maritime and water elements. I also felt that the initials logo (just the "DL") would look good if it had something added to infer the "double" in the boat's name. I like the balance it provides as well. The combination will give a better indication to your audience as to the nature of the "DoubleTime" name (being the moniker for a boat).
Also, having designed for the promotional apparel industry, I would be happy to coordinate with your apparel/hat suppliers to meet their individual specifications/formats to successfully complete your work.
