Creative brief

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

I am an eCommerce strategist, blogger, speaker and soon to be author who helps Senior Executives (CEOs, CXOs, Boards) understand the disruption that all this web2.0/web3.0/web4.0 will have on their Organization. I am passionate about innovation, news ideas, tools that really make working easier. Much of my work is using Social Media and helping organizations understand enterprise 2.0 - ie how you make web2.0 sticky for organizations.

I tend to work face to face with individuals or small groups on 3-6 month contracts, as well s mentoring global Chief Executives around their eCommerce strategy.

I have considerable experience in Asia Pacific, The USA and Europe and work globally.

I am writing a book called "Surviving the Digital Tsunami" all about what non-technical CEOS, and Senior Execs should understand so that they can challenge more effectively in the Boardroom. I have a tentative design for the book cover which will be uploaded as part of this package that MIGHT be helpful in your design concepts.

You can check out ore about me, including a full bio at www.marcoryan.com

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

A re-design for http://www.marcoryan.com.

It needs to be clean, contemporary, with great use of design and a clever use of colours. It may well use the more pastel palette so typical of web 2.0 sites, or if you want to use a strong colour design concept, then it needs to reflect the purpose of the site - driving my profile, allowing people to read my blog easily, and understand quickly what it is I offer. This probably means that it will not be a dark colour as background as this makes it ore difficult to read and to print.

As I evangelise about all these topics, my site needs to reflect that I practice what I preach.

The site content and structure will not change ie a fixed width 3 column design with horizontal navigation. You will see a series of "widgets" down the left and right of the page. These widgets must be included in your design. You can style those that contain text, or the titles/containers but some (like the dopplr widget) i have no control over the layout.

The navigation /menu items will not change, but when I come to code the site these need to be styled using CSS rather than background images.

Search and search button should reflect the design you use but must not be placed in the header.

We need the design and any specific css styles that reflects your designs eg Color #, fonts etc.

The site will be heavily optimized for search engines so please bear this in mind

You can introduce a theme or a header image to make it make impactful but these need to be carefully balanced against my comments above

I have also attached a powerpoint design I did whilst playing with concepts that might give you an idea of how I think, and some istockphoto images that I have bought but also why I need your help!

I am open to a flash banner in the header if it is really impactful (might b something around the pulse from a tsunami for example)

If I was giving the brief to the agency the following terms would be used:

Innovation, contemporary yet corporate; clean, sophisticated, clever, impactful, subtle; advocacy, envangelism, web2.0, distinctive, charismatics, communicative, powerful, disruptive. More Gen Y than Baby boomer.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

CEOs, CXOs. Boards, Headhunters, large to medium companies, technical and marketing bloggers

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

ww.ping.fm (for use of colours);

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

No clipart; no stock photos in isolation;no silly icons/logos
We have the site structure and content - we are looking for a strong visual design template to make it stand out.
No dark backgrounds
Try and avoid obvious imagery likes waves (for tsunami bit) unless it is used subtly

It is important that your designs use the Title and subtitle on my existing site. All content remains, but in effect I am looking for an upgraded design template. I am not looking for structural change - the site is created using Squarespace, which provides a number of fixed layouts, but with complete control over the css and the ability to inject additional code, javascript, divs etc into key sections of the page. Thus any design should follow my existing 3 col layout (some widgets might be moved from left to right, up or don etc) but not be radically different structurally. Aesthetically different - yes. Structurally different - no.
