Creative brief

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

New retail gallery in tourist mountain town of Black Mtn, NC. Art from the Heart shares the work of twenty local artists and craftspeople working in different media who express their love of nature, music, and faith through their work. Owned by ___ _____ whose sculpted jewelry designs depict the flora and fauna of her native Blue Ridge Mountains.

Gallery is decorated with mountain laurel twig displays and wood fixtures to give it a cozy, natural backdrop for artwork. We are in a conservative, traditional area known for a strong artist community so there are lots of Galleries in this tough economy for selling art. I need something eye catching but “natural” to use for signage and business cards. Sign can be hand painted so multi color is not a problem and business cards will be CMYK color. I will be using the logo in newsprint and hope it may translate adequately into grayscale. Similarly, a single-color version of the logo will be made to press onto the inside of store window, however the PSD layers could be printed in different color vinyl to achieve multi color effect. If possible, please submit single-color version with color version. Logo needs to incorporate the name of the business in such a way that it looks cohesive.

My preferred colors are soft sage or mossy greens, tans or brown, black, ivory, mauve, periwinkle, and soft pinks…i.e. natural blooming colors.

Name: Art From The Heart
Subtitle on separate layer for business card, will not be used on sign:
Locally made hand crafts and Dee Sharp Jewelry Designs
(or if using a nest image):
A Gathering of locally made Jewelry and Hand Crafts

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

Logo to be used on shop signage, business cards, and possible website. PSD in CMYK with separate layers of the different elements, including the name of business in its own layer, subtitle in it's own layer.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

conservative audience, mostly tourist based, drawn to beautiful mountain setting and climate of our area.

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

See attached images for ideas. These were some of my own ideas but lack appealing color coordination, font selection either too common or hard to read (I have few to choose from), and layout isn't impressive (by me w/no training). But hey, they might stimulate ideas or maybe they could be tweaked so that they look professional. Also is a photo of our local mountains for inspiration. Last is a photo of what I describe as twig displays inside a shop (that is NOT my shop, just wanted you to understand what I mean by decorating the shop with some laurel twig displays to create a natural backdrop for artwork).

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

It is not a must have, but I like the idea of incorporating one or more of the following: mountain(s) (see actual photo of how our mountains look in this area) , a heart, twigs/tree branches incorporated into the name, or even a twiggy nest in the logo. But I’m open to your creative ideas.

Brief updates

20-Feb-09 1:50 p.m. GMT
I have added a file called shop colors that provides the cmyk info for sage and pink I have liked in the past in the event this is helpful to designers.

Also, I have asked that a subtitle (sometimes I call it a byline) be incorporated into the plan so it is used on a business card (probably not the sign)...perhaps it goes below the logo or integrated into the logo...either way it is part of the logo request. It is indicated in the details but I have misspelled hand crafts...it should be one word...Handcrafts. Thank you to those who have integrated the subtitle already, but since many did not, I wanted to add this update.

I am posting some images of a few jewelry pieces I make in case the images of a dogwood blossom, oak tree, and lady's slipper are helpful in creating a logo. There have been several great mountain themed logos submitted to consider, so I'm hoping these, or your own creative vision, may prompt some different ideas. Thank you for taking the time to consider this project and I appreciate your talents. PS - the dogwood blossom is the state flower and the oak a native hardwood in North Carolina. And the pink lady's slipper is a wildflower that grows in Black Mountain, including my own yard...it is a beloved flower here. Any of these images would represent this area well and are excellent examples of jewelry pieces I make. Thank you.

A bleeding heart flower (another piece of jewelry I make) might be a great image too since it's a heart shape and connects to something I make. I uploaded my jewelry piece, a line drawing, and a photo of the bleeding heart flower. also uploaded a dogwood photo.

NOTE OF INTEREST!!!!!!!! This project made it onto the front page of crowdspring.com. That's a reflection, in my opinion, of the quality of creativity being seen on this project. Small business owners like myself can feel assured that they will get great results here. I hope that buyers take note of your individual artistic strengths. You know how the saying goes...all publicity is good publicity! (a good reason to post a project if you haven't yet)

There are moments of this CS experience when I feel I got the E ticket on some magical train headed to an unknown destination called "logo", where the fuel is invisible ether of creative consciousness spiked by a competition additive. There's a refresh button for the window I sit at and new and unexpected visions materialize daily. These have been inspiring, beautiful, unusual, unexpected, and even moldable. I wish I were wealthy to offer 6 awards... so there is only a heartfelt thank you to all of you. One of you will set the tone for my business and my packaging and I thank you very much. I've enjoyed the journey and hope I haven't driven anyone crazy in my enthusiasm for so many great visions.
