Creative brief

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

We are a newly created trans-disciplinary center at Duke University involving mathematicians and theoretical scientists from many different disciplines. Our goal is to develop and disseminate new mathematical approaches to interesting and challenging scientific problems. Mathematical methods used by our members include formal equations, computation (numbers), algorithms, graphical relationships (geometry, networks), logic, and more.

We already have a website at http://ctms.aas.duke.edu .

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We need a logo that combines the idea of using mathematical tools to describe nature and solve technical problems in the broadest sense with the concept of creating linkages across disciplines from biology to physics, from environmental science to neuroscience. The logo should convey the goal that the new center be transformative to how science is done across disciplinary boundaries at our institution. It needs to be bold without being splashy. The logo should contain both, the name of the Center and a representative visual emblem. It will be used on our website and in (mostly electronic) communications with the world.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Scientists from all disciplines at Duke University and at academic institutions around the world.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

Nothing inoffensive is off limits. Some guidelines about fonts and color choices are described in the attached file. One common theme in Duke's public presence is the nonexclusive use of blue and white colors.
