ps. I forgot (sorry) to add why the color of the drop shadow is important. For one you see the app icon on some background graphic, think desktop background, that the user can set, but also it is shown in a settings menu that is grey in the same color as the drop shadows. Therefore the drop shadows of the official app icons are not seen in the settings menu as they have the same color as the background. (less)

Another update on the drop shadows. Meanwhile I've seen that the actual color of the drop shadows is probably important.

I'd love to point you guys to a style guide, but unfortunately there is none and I am just trying to reverse engineer what I see in the app icons of the Google supplied applications.

UPDATE:

I looked at some of the Google supplied applications and found that there logos have a transparent background and a drop shadow.
