Creative brief

The buyer added updates to the brief. Read them.

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

We are developing a website, www.areyoustylin.com, that will provide fashion advice to users.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We need a logoized version of the name "AreYouStylin.com" or "areyouStylin.com" with one of those two precise capitalizations. The "Stylin" component of it should be italicized or otherwise emphasized to differentiate it from the rest of the logo, so that, when read, the cadence will be "are you STYLIN dot com." The logo should be easily legible, so that the distinctions between each word are clear, notwithstanding the fact that they are all connected without spaces. The logo should itself appear stylish from the perspective of our target audience (described below)--i.e., it should validate the fact that our website itself knows enough about fashion to be a credible source of advice. This will be the primary logo for our website, our print and on-line marketing materials, including banner ads. It should also be appropriate for use on business cards and signage. Ideally, the logo will have with it a component that can be extracted and used as a favicon, along the lines of "cS" for crowdSPRING or the "Y!" for Yahoo!. We would like a target viewer of the logo to use any combination of the following words to describe the logo: irreverent, cool, reflective of what's "in", stylin, hip, edgy, legitimate and/or bad ass.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

13- to 29-year-old style-conscious urban or suburban American kids and young adults of all ethicities and middle to upper class socioeconomic standing. Very importantly, the audience must include style-conscious boys and men, not just girls and women as is the case with many fashion-focused websites. Gender neutrality is essential.

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

We like shades of red, particularly vermilion. The font Rage Italic (italicized) is nice for the "Stylin" part of the log, but we're not committed to that font.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

Must havein the design: (1) areyouStylin.com or AreYouStylin.com, (2) a favicon, (3) gender neutrality and (4) clear legibility.

Don't want to see in the design: (1) any images of women or women's apparel, (2) other feminine imagery, colors or fonts, (3) emphasis on any part of the logo other than "Stylin", (4) anything French, Italian or otherwise reflective of a particular foreign country, (5) anything traditionally associated with fashion, such as a needle and thread or high heels or (6) too much masculinity or intensity.

We would love additional proposals, as we are very receptive to creative suggestions, even if they don't conform to our suggestions. After all, we're business people, not graphic designers. Perhaps a representational or abstract icon of some sort would be nice. We'd like something simple and original yet memorable.

Thanks!

To elaborate, we are strongly considering accepting a proposal without ".com" in it at all.

After reviewing several submissions so far, we're disinclined to go with a hot pink color or orange-red. We'd prefer to see submissions with bright reds, blues or oranges.

We'd also like to see if anyone can conceive of a representational or abstract symbol to be incorporated into the logo along the lines of Nike's swoosh or Target's target. Thanks very much!

We've been thinking about symbols and have an idea for what we think may be nice: an abstract rendering of a windmill. The idea came from the famous Picasso painting of Don Quixote, which you can see here: http://www.fen.bilkent.edu.tr/~sevincli/images/.... Our suggestion would be to make the windmill very simple, with only four arms radiating outward from the hub. Each arm would be a different length with the shortest pointing from the hub toward either 4:30 on the clock face or 7:30 on the clock face and each arm growing progressively longer as you move from the shortest clockwise. Also, the arms would get wider as they move outward from the hub, so that each arm is a trapezoid rather than a rectangle or square. Our preliminary idea is to incorporate this image somewhere into the logo. We welcome any and all attempts to do so.

Of course, we remain very interested in seeing other concepts, as well.

Thank you all very much!

We've posted to crowdSPRING a MS Word document with a crude rendering in it of a windmill design that may be helpful. We made this ourselves, so it's not very good. However, it gives you an idea of something we may like. Any variations on this theme incorporated into the AreYouStylin.com logo would be VERY much appreciated. Thanks!

We're not really loving the windmill designs we've been getting so feel free to jettison that concept entirely and instead go with whatever you think looks cool. We're seeing a lot of beautiful designs but not a lot of edgy and irreverent designs. We'd like to see more edginess and irreverence without being too extreme. We don't want it to be so crazy that only teenage boys like it.
