Creative brief

The buyer added updates to the brief. Read them.

Hey CrowdSpring People,

Firstly loving the concept of this site and secondly I'm blown away with the standard of work here - Awesome!

THE STORY
---------------------------------------
My name's Fletch, a UK designer, and a frustrated one at that!

I've had a great idea for years now and it's finally about to be launched - Bo!

Throughout this time one of my many roles has been to create the logo/identity for this project.
And have I managed to create something I'm completely happy with...

...have I Fook =)

I have a logo, I'm happy with it, but...
IT'S NOT PANT WETTINGLY BRILLIANT AND EXCITES ME ENOUGH TO TATTOO MYSELF

Am I too close to the project? - perhaps

To hard a brief? - Well that's for you to prove to me, hee hee

SO WHATS THE PROJECT FLETCH?
---------------------------------------
It's one of those social networking websites - yawn. But a niche area and hopefully an exciting one for you.

Devoted to cars and car enthusiasts, bringing together everything and anything to do with errrrr cars.

The site will basically host profiles for car owners, their cars, the companies that produce products and services, car events, car clubs - you get the idea!

WHAT'S THE NAME MAN ALREADY!
---------------------------------------
Ok ok, the names Carunity
Strapline to tie it in will probably be "The Car Community"
carunity.com is secured.

It's to role of the tongue like saying community but there can be a problem with it written like it is above.

Very occasionally it can be read as ca-runity so its important that the logo supports this, here are some suggestions:

Case change:
CarUnity

Stacked:
Car
Unity

Colour:
carunity

WHO'S IT FOR?
---------------------------------------
Good question, years back this site was for the hardcore car modders but I've opened the concept up. This is for 17-70 year old male and female. This is for the young lad who just bought his first [Corsa/Nova/Fiesta] and wants to learn how he can customise or repair his car, its for the gentleman in his late 50's who restores his classic cars and is looking to buy or sell some, its for the marketing director of Kenwood Audio to realise how important the site could be to them in connecting with their customers, it might even be for the mum who is frustrated getting stuck in traffic doing the school run and whats to find a better route.

THATS FAIRLY BROAD FLETCH
---------------------------------------
I know, perhaps here in lies the difficult bit then. I bet you were all hoping for screeching wheels, and chequered flags. Well please think about what any iconic car motif means.

Screeching wheels = Speed
Chequered Flags = Racing
Carbon Fibre letting maybe? = That's not going to cut it with the Volkswagon Beach Buggy Club who meet fortnightly

Think of the simplicity of the worlds great logo's. This site needs an identity that is simple and broad appealing to THE CAR ENTHUSIAST - in a nutshell.

Facebook, and so many other great companies have done it with just a typeface - perhaps you can ?

Or is there something that encapsulates cars that can be added?

OK YOUR GETTING A BIT PICKY ALREADY FLETCH, WHATS THE MUST HAVE'S AND LET ME TAKE IT FROM THERE
---------------------------------------
Ok I'm 98% sure this is a vector, line art logo. (This is going to be cut into vinyl and applied to cars, printed cheaply on t-shirts, etc)
I'm extremely interested in colour/colour combinations as this is ultimately the start of the identity and will be carried across the site.
Website real estate is precious (particularly vertically) a logo that is longer than it is high is beneficial, but don't let this spoil your fun, we can work something out.

FINAL FLETCH THOUGHT
---------------------------------------
As a designer (giggle) in a way I might only be looking for the concept here - so post all your ideas - not just highly polished finished logos (unless of course you can't help yourself).

What I'm saying is the winning design could be a pencil sketch on the back of a napkin, because I can see the potential and work it up myself.

You can contact me via email on F_L_E_T_C_H@hotmail.com with any questions.

Good luck and may the Bo be with you!

Logo to be clean, clear

I think its important to point out that if you are reading my comments on other logos that they are directed at that logo only. Keep to the brief above and important stuff that I learn from this process will be added here.

This is so very important to me, and I really can appropriate the effort that will be put into this, So you have my word that every upload will be given comments/suggestions and a rating - its the least I can do.

I'm sat here working my way though peoples portfolios selecting creatives I think could bring something to the table, and I just had a thought. This community is new to me so if you think this might be someones bag then let them know! Competition after all is what strives us forward right hee hee

This is a website mainly so its important to see how it looks with the .com extension. If designs could incorporate a version with and without that would be great.

I now have been convinced that using a side profile for a car is not going to work because the logo must appeal to the broadest audience and no outline can cater for the range of vehicle types.

I'm really liking stacked logo's where 'car' is written on top of 'unity'
-------
CAR
unity
------

The boldness, block-like this gives works well.

Please include .com in designs.

OK, so were getting close to the end (5 days left - ekkk)
I have no idea if people even read these but I have some important ramblings to make so here goes anyway.

I'm pleased with the amount of entries and there has definitively been some innovation. There is no single logo I jump at but there are ones I could see working although none are at the standard I would want it. That isn't a problem as I have always said it's about the idea ideally.

A big thank you to everyone who is taking part and if your just turning on to this now I urge you to have a go as I really haven't made my mind up at all.

So I have some new ones to rate - great! Today will be about moving what I think are the best ideas to a rating of 4. This is really to help show the direction I want things to go, unless I state its for concept only, meaning the style is not right.

STYLE
I know I am looking for something with weight to it. It really should be able to be made out of 1 or 2 colors flat vector graphics. Simplicity is probably the key. I left it open to start with but know now I definitely want something simple strong bold. It might be just a subtle change to text perhaps. The idea of a circle or ring works for me as its generic enough. This is the most important point, we are still getting a lot of entries which are off brief and it's a shame as its wasted work. The site is designed for all car types so anything that can be linked to a style or type of car is no good unless its rendered generic enough.

Thanks again,

Good luck

I'm equally interested in what this community think of the logos being but forward so please feel free to rate away on these.

If your interested in where the direction is heading for me.
1) Go to the gallery
2) Filter the results by Buyer: rating 4
If anyone fancies putting a rating against those logos I'd be interested to see that.

Cheers

Fletch
