LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

FreeElective LLC is a Chicago-based company that aims to improve how people connect online. We are building and preparing to launch peepul365.com™, a personal/family networking site for Indians "where relationships take root"™. The name is an interplay between "people" and the symbolic "peepul" tree (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacred_fig and http://zipcodezoo.com/Plants/F/Ficus_religiosa).

peepul365.com will enable people to create both a family tree and a web of social relationships and expand their personal/family networks. It is where individuals connect with relatives, neighbors, family friends, teachers, doctors, and other people in their lives. Think of peepul365.com as a LinkedIn-like networking site for Indians (South Asians).

We would like the peepul365 logo to evoke:
· The instinct among people (especially those in collectivistic Asian cultures) to connect with family and friends with whom they share common roots
· Authenticity and depth, so that people's first reaction is to trust the brand
· Freshness, to indicate that this networking/relationships site has something new to offer (yet, we want the logo to avoid a "bubble-gummy" feel, because this will be an earnest site)
· High quality, both about the site and the connections people can expect to forge at the site
__________

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

The logo may be used on signage and clothing, but it is primarily for our web site. As such, we would like the logo to be in tune with Web 2.0 design principles, as described at http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com/web-2.0-des....

We recognize that logos may be illustration-based, iconic, or text-based in design (as described at http://thelogocompany.net/logo-types.htm).

We envision a text-based logo (as described at http://webdesignfromscratch.com/basics/text-bas...) or iconic logo, preferably with a distinctive icon/logomark.

Text-based is important because of the need to reinforce the brand name (peepul365) in people's minds. In addition to peepul365 in text form, a distinctive icon (e.g., Apple's unmistakable shape, McDonald's arches) or a symbolic icon (e.g., Nike's swoosh) would add defining value and again help to create a brand image, as described at http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com/logos.php. Possibilities for peepul365 include a tree structure or sketch, with the branches signifying the spreading of relationships.

Lastly, we believe that simple is beautiful, while a busy logo is bad.
__________

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Educated, computer-literate people of all ages, but primarily in their mid-20s to mid-50s; of Indian/South Asian origin; living in the Indian sub-continent as well as in countries that include the U.S., Canada, the U.K., the Middle East, South-East Asia, South Africa, and Australia.
__________

WE LIKE THESE EXAMPLES:

We found many of the logos at http://www.webdesignfromscratch.com/great-web-l... to be inspirational, especially: Things, Seedcamp, SwapTree, Kitchenbug, Watercooler, Bluestring, ChiliRec, Mahalo, MailChimp, Viewdle, Mixx, Newvine, and TuneUp.
__________

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE THIS IN OUR PIECE:

Once we pick the design that most appeals to us, we will need the logo in all of the following variations:
· One version that has just "peepul365" and any distinguishing icon, while another version has the tag line, "where relationships take root," also printed (either beside or below "peepul365" and any distinguishing icon);
· With ™ and ® superscript symbols for both "peepul365" and the tag line;
· One version with "alpha" as a superscript to the logo, indicating that it is the alpha version of the web site, and another version with "beta" as a superscript, in addition to the version with no "alpha" or "beta" written beside the logo;
· Additional, one-color format for printing on promotional items

We will need the logo in these versions:
· Vector-based: AI (layered), PSD, EPS, and TIFF
· PDF, GIF, and JPEG (for PowerPoint presentations), including transparent JPG
· A 16x16 pixel GIF icon (favicon) for web browsers to associate with the website

The JPEG and GIF versions should be such that the logo, including the tag line, are clear and immediately identifiable when scaled down to a height of 70 pixels.

We would also like to know the typography and, especially the CMYK or Pantone colors used in the fonts, to ensure correct reproduction in the future.

Brief updates

15-Feb-10 3 p.m. GMT
I am heartened by the participation of many creatives and humbled by the talent on display in the submitted designs. I fully recognize that for the design process to be effective, I need to provide timely, clear, and consistent feedback, and I have been doing just that.

It has come to my attention, however, that the feedback that I have been attaching to my ratings of the designs is visible only to the creative who submitted that rated-design. Believing that a creative would be able to view my feedback on someone else's entry, I even prefaced some feedback with, "For the benefit of other creatives, ..." (This is only my second crowdSPRING project, and I understand that crowdSPRING recently made some changes in feedback visibility settings.)

Out of fairness to all participants, when I have feedback that would benefit all creatives, I will post it as a new comment under the Activity tab (as suggested at http://www.crowdspring.com/help/faq/how-do-i-gi...).
