Creative brief

The buyer added updates to the brief. Read them.

NOTE from crowdSPRING: ON OCTOBER 9, THE BUYER ASKED US TO EXTEND THIS PROJECT (ORIGINALLY A 7 DAY PROJECT) FOR AN ADDITIONAL 7 DAYS. THE BUYER PROVIDED AN UPDATED BRIEF TODAY (OCTOBER 10) TO PROVIDE MORE SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS AND TO BETTER FOCUS EXISTING AND NEW DESIGNS. THIS IS THE NEW BRIEF (a copy of the old brief is below - please ignore it)

What we are looking for:

A corporate logo that will be used on a business card (that you would hopefully be hired to design) and then, eventually, as part of our branding. We will want the card designed after we get the logo nailed down.

Desired Logo Style:

Modern and Professional. Beautiful and Readable. Different but not too “out there” or “cute.” STUNNING and SOPHISTICATED. Our clients are mid-level companies (not “mom and pop” shops).

What we want in a business card look:

First, a bit of background. Our company name, “A Far Site Better” (that’s S I T E) is a spin on the phrase “A Far Sight Better;” (e.g. “$1,000 is a far sight better than $1”). In our company name, “Far” is not a physical distance (e.g. not a galaxy far, far away). It’s the difference between items. “A Far Site Better” is about taking a not-working-so-well website and turning it into something better. Something FAR better.

What we want in a business card look is something that instantly transmits that our company can take your site and improve it. The metaphor is something that goes from bad to exceptional; unattractive to stunning; dull to amazing; extreme makeover, website -- an evolution toward perfection.

What colors do we want?:

Whatever looks best, that is what we are looking for. Our website is going to be redesigned soon (do not be guided at all by its current look or graphics -- it’s old) so you do not need to adhere to its colors or font. We are open to change. The feeling that the colors should evoke are professional and classy, not primary school or circus.

Do we have a tagline?:

Yes. Please use Greek text for now. It will be three words, the first has two letters, the second and third have six.

How we approach our work with our clients:

Together we achieve successes that they never expected. We give them opportunities they never thought possible, we build tools that they only dreamt of. We become good friends with almost all our clients; we care about each other.

More Info

We are looking for someone to work with in the future, so this would hopefully be the first of many things we do together I do not think we would be working with any beginners. No disrespect intended, but we are looking for a wonderful designer, someone we can get to know and work with for a long time.

This is not the kind of job we normally hire for; we are a web design firm after all, though we do have some call for logo and print layout work. We realize that print and web design are different and not a lot of people are great at both print and web. But if you are honestly great at both, then we will have even more to talk about!

If you are a web designer, this is not the right posting for you, but we have plenty of work for a web designer as well, so say hello.

Accepted File Formats:

Vector Formats (.eps, .pdf or .ai)

Thank you for your time.

Brief updates

24-Sep-08 11:56 p.m. GMT
I was asked a couple of very good questions that I should have put into my initial document, so sorry about that.
Well, better late than never, here they are
1) Who is your target?

Our clients are mid-level companies, not Mom and Pop stores. Our ecommerce platform is very sophisticated, and the target client is a company that is ready to break on through the $1 million a month mark in online sales.

If they are with an ecommerce provider at this time, they are used to paying an arm and a leg, which is good because we are not cheap, but we are less expensive than the larger players. We are also much higher in support and take on a lot less clients to make sure we can give the high level of support that a true partnership can bring.

We tend to prefer family owned companies more than corporation because we like to work with people who have a vested interest in the business and care about what they do. That is not always the case, but it has been more often than not.

2) Is it correct to assume that this logo would be used not only on a business card but also in stationary, on the web, t-shirts, whatever?

Yes, that is a safe assumption, though I really do not care about t-shirts or things like that. All I really care about are the business card and using the logo on the site. Our site is in the process of a totally redesign, so do not use what we have up for inspiration.
