Creative brief

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

Lowergear has been around almost 7 years. We're fairly unique in what we do - so we never got around to worrying about logo design. It's about time.

We rent camping and backpacking gear online and ship gear to and from customers all over the US, similar to the NetFlix model. We don't have a retail store. Rented gear includes tents, backpacks, sleeping bags, stoves, accessories - anything needed for camping or backpacking. See www.lowergear.com.

You may notice on the site now that we have also rented GPS units from this site. We are shifting that to a separate sub-site and will not be promoting GPS units any longer on this site. We will be rolling out a redesigned site focusing solely on camping gear after the first of the year, and we want this new logo now so it can be incorporated into Lowergear's new site design.

The name of LowerGear was to push the concept that renting gear results in a lower cost than buying in most cases.

We are different from most local outdoor store retailer rental departments in that our gear is from well known, high quality brands; always cleaned after every use, and we carry a much broader variety of gear and a lot more inventory than any retailer. We cater to solo campers, and up to groups of 200. Since we do not sell any gear, rentals are our sole focus.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

A logo for use on our web site, letterhead and marketing materials.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

The occasional or new camper or backpacker who does not want to invest in the purchase of new gear. Also youth groups at churches; nonprofits; and team building and guide services. Our customers are from all adult age groups; both men and women.

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

We have another site under development to rent tech products at www.rentavo.com. We selected that logo from a Crowdspring designer. Also like things like adventure60.com; zherpa.com; gearpac.com; treklightgear.com. Modern and clean font, with or without an icon

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

Prefer no images of mountains, trees, tents (or other equipment) and no mechanical gears. Open to a unique hiker icon. Use the tagline "Online Gear Rentals"

Clarification on icon images if you choose to use one: We don't want you to incorporate an actual image or illustration of a outdoor scene or gear item (mountain, tree tents. etc) but it is ok to use a stylized concept of such as an icon if you want to go in that direction.

I've gone thru the initial entries and have marked a handful with a "3" rating that I'm leaning toward at this point. Such initially selected designs may have little in common, and this does not mean the others will not be considered. But future submitters can look and compare and that might help guide your concept. We continue to welcome revisions and new entries for comparison. Thanks for everyone's hard work.

Will be out of touch to review entries until 11/22. Will resume then, and hope to narrow down to favorites on 11/23 before making final requests for revisions and a selection in the next day or so after that. Thanks for all the entries, and keep them rolling in as inspiration strikes you!

Today is the final day for submissions. Shortly before the deadline, I will go thru and mark the "finalists" with a 4 rating, and from there myself and a few others will select our favorites from that list. It will probably be Wednesday 11/25 before the winning submission is notified. Inevitably there are a few tweaks requested of the selected version. Thanks for everyone's patience and hard work on this project.
