LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

First Baptist Church Highland Avenue is the oldest African-American Baptist church in Winston-Salem, NC and was established in 1879. Our mission statement is “Reaching, preaching, and teaching to the saved and unsaved.”

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We need a logo that will be a part of a rebranding of the church. This logo will be used on a website, stationery, business cards, and possibly church vans.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

First Baptist Church is a historic church with many traditions. The design needs to “not offend” the older members of the congregation, but also appeal to a younger audience within the church and in the community.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

The church doesn’t have any official colors or fonts. We are open to your ideas.

Please be sure to include "Highland Avenue" as part of our name. In 1892, Winston Baptist Church, an all White congregation, later known as Second Street Baptist Church, applied to the North Carolina General Assembly for a change in the name of their church. The name that they sought was “First Baptist Church”. The legislature granted their request in 1893 and thus Winston-Salem had two First Baptist Churches, the first of which was organized by African-Americans at Sixth and Chestnut Streets in 1879. Today, to distinguish between the two, we refer to ourselves as First Baptist Church – Highland Avenue.
