Creative brief

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

I am launching a professional food blog focused on ratings, reviews, and photography of food, specifically restaurant dishes. The name of the blog, Tasted Menu, is in part a play on the concept of the "tasting menu" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tasting_menu). The blog will feature content from me and several of my food enthusiast friends, professionals and amateurs alike, as well as contributions from our reader community.

While we hope to be comprehensive and meticulous, e.g. covering all the dishes on a restaurant's menu or covering all the restaurants in our city that make a certain type of food, and while aspects of the website will hint at competition, e.g. opining on which restaurant makes the best, say, lobster roll in our city, at the end of the day, the spirit of the website will be centered around the joys of food and sharing these eating experiences with the food enthusiast community.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We need a logo, which will be primarily used for our website but also for stationery, including our business cards.

I would also like to see compressed spin-offs of the main logo, e.g. a condensed variation of the logo solely featuring "TM," sort of like the "Y!" to the logo for "Yahoo!"

Finally, it would be very helpful if this logo and a consistent theme be dropped into a PowerPoint template.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Our target audience is online food enthusiasts, or "foodies," including a unique emphasis on food photography enthusiasts, or "phoodies." Some other websites focused on this audience include...

http://www.urbanspoon.com
http://www.yelp.com
http://www.zagat.com

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

I'm hesitant to answer this question as I would really like to initially see as broad and creative a set of submissions as possible. I will be sure to provide timely guidance and feedback as the contest progresses. I will say that there are some diverse and clever logos among the websites I listed above, but that does not mean this logo has to resemble these logos in any way, shape, or form.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

Note that our name does have a space between the two words, so the logo should be consistent with this, i.e. please *no* "TastedMenu."

Please note that the second place award ("Award 2") was mistakenly entered as $300 and should rather read $100. I have contacted customer service to have this updated. Apologies!

Thanks everyone for your contributions so far! I like the variety of ideas I've been seeing. One idea I'd be curious to see folks build upon is what Markotastic has cleverly done (see #45 and #46) in animating/humanizing the spoon and fork, including giving them genders. How about a logo with the two peeking over a slanted dish (see #70), perhaps even snapping a photograph of the food or taking notes? Or a logo with the "couple" sitting at a table across from each other, perhaps even with the knife as a waiter? Just some ideas, but I'm sure you all have others that involve our animated silverware couple. I'm curious to see what folks can brainstorm! I realize there's the risk of making the logo too noisy, but let's see what can be pulled off.
