Creative brief

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

I am DJ Trayze. I am a professional DJ based in Washington, DC. My music genre is open-format, meaning that I spin every type of music imaginable (or danceable) at most of my gigs. Most of my selections are hip hop, house, rock, 80's, reggae, and pop. I have been a DJ for 13 years, starting out doing mostly hip hop music, and progressing to open format later on in my career. My style is hard to describe- think of the feelings that you would get from listening to hip hop, house and rock, and combine those into a visual representation of the vibe. That is my style.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

I DJ 4-6 nights a week, and I am looking to create an image that will carry me beyond my local washington DC gigs. I need a logo/branding image that has mass appeal, and can be used for my website, mixtape covers, stickers, flyers etc. A professionally designed logo will help to streamline my visual presence on the web and in print.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Potential bookings, nightclubs, club-goers and fans. I want them to see the logo and get a feel for what they will be getting when they book me for a party.

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

I like 2-d OR 3-d either one is great, bold fonts - any colors are fine. I like designs that incorporate shapes or unique angles. I like designs that might incorporate something relating to DJing- such as a booming speaker, a turntable, a record, record needle, etc - BUT DO NOT USE THIS AS A BASIS FOR DESIGN. The design DOES NOT necessarily have to incorporate an DJ equipment object.

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

The design has to be edgy and fun, but I dont want it to lean too much towards one genre of music - as not to alienate potential clients/bookings. For example, if the design looks "too hip-hop", I will alienate clients that want to book me to spin a rock and 80's party (which I do every friday night!). If the design looks too futuristic, it will scream "techno/trance/house" which will alienate the hip hop bookings. I have played around with some designs on my own, and I like other DJs logos, but I am looking for something unique and different, but not to experimental. I am open to all types of ideas.

What the design must have: It needs to be versatile - more specifically, I need the design to be able to switch from full color to black and white easily, it needs to be able to be inverted (for example, if it is going on a black flyer, it needs to be in white or gray scale, if it is going onto a colorful flyer, it can be full color. final delivery of the flyer needs to be on a transparent background.

Update 10-7-09:

In addition to having my name in a cool font concept, I think that combining the text of my DJ name into some kind of logo-symbol would be more useful to me. I still havent seen any concepts using dj equipment images/concepts (like turntables, headphones, etc), but Im looking forward to more submissions.

I also like the idea of having "trayze" stand out more than "DJ". Its almost as if im looking for the "DJ" part to be understood by just looking at the logo, or have the "DJ" part of it be a smaller part of the whole logo look.

I just thought of another concept idea - playing off the use of some sound equipment - think of a 3-D rendering of a technics 1200 turntable with "DJ" on the short side of the turntable and "trayze" across the long side.

I just want to reiterate an update from yesterday: In addition to having my name in a cool font concept, I think that combining the text of my DJ name into some kind of logo-symbol would be more useful to me. I NEED SOMETHING THAT STANDS OUT - LOOKS ENERGETIC.

try submitting designs WITH and WITHOUT "DJ" attached to them- this will emphasize more of what Im looking for from my update 10-7 1:39
