LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

Small (one-person for now) consultancy/practice. Provides business advice, strategy help, and market research. Industry focus areas include: clean technology markets, alternative energy, corporate sustainability, Internet and information technology. The principal (me) is a seasoned executive with broad business experience across many industries and functions.

I maintain a blog that focuses on clean tech, alternative energy and sustainability at greenresearch.com.

While a goal is to specialize in projects in those "green" areas, my work is not limited to those areas. A common denominator of our work is that our clients are technology intensive businesses, meaning either energy tech, clean tech, information tech, Internet tech, medical tech, etc.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We need a logo (and possibly logotype) to represent the business on business cards, Web site (greenresearch.com), e-mail signatures and PowerPoint. I am not asking for a PowerPoint design at this time; that may be a follow-on project.

I do business under the name Green Researchâ„¢. The logo should carry the trademark symbol â„¢.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Customers fall into two main categories: 1) technology-centric businesses, such as Internet venture, an enterprise software vendor, a health technology vendor, a clean tech or energy technology vendor, usually start ups or mid-sized firms 2) large corporation.

Here are some of the attributes I would like the logo to carry/convey: current, tech-savvy, intelligent, analytical, quantitative, professional, solution-oriented.

I would like a design that is compatible with and suggestive of the "green" area, but not exclusively so. Clients in the green space should be able to relate to the connotation of environmental/clean tech/sustainability/etc. But clients who are general business or technology companies should not be burdened by an associate that does not apply to them. The Green Research brand should be able to be relevant to all client types listed above.

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

I have a hard time with this. I will say that this logo appeals because its multi-color and it conveys the two meanings ("ink" and "insect") in complementary ways: color and shape. http://logopond.com/gallery/detail/44420

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

No "green" cliches such as trees, leaves, solar panels, wind turbines. The color green may be used, however. A restrained visual pun is ok (see Inksect above). But nothing too cutesy. Naturally, it should look distinctive--no "haven't I seen this somewhere before" kind of feeling.

PLEASE NOTE: I DO --NOT-- WANT ANY TREES, LEAVES, SOLAR PANELS, WIND TURBINES OR ANY OTHER CLICHE'S ASSOCIATED WITH GREEN MARKETING (BUT THE COLOR GREEN MAY BE USED). THE REASON IS THAT WHILE I WANT THE DESIGN TO BE SUGGESTIVE OF AND COMPATIBLE WITH CONSULTING AND RESEARCH IN CLEAN TECH, ALTERNATIVE ENERGY AND SUSTAINBILITY, I DON'T WANT IT TO BE --CONFINED-- TO THOSE AREAS.

Thanks for your submissions so far!

Here's another update and an attempt to refine the brief. If you've read this far, thank you very much.

The mission of my research and advisory work is to provide clients with -insight- that guides action that produces positive, sustainable results.

insight->action->results.

The results that interest me are not merely classic business goals like increasing market share, selling more toothpaste, or up-selling customers. To me, those are only interesting results if they can be accomplished without undue harm to the environment or people. And they are really interesting results if they embody sustainable business practices that spread prosperity.

I hope this helps give you a better feel for how I want to differentiate my research and strategic advisory work. Thanks.

I love what you have been submitting so far. I am so impressed and grateful that you've been motivated to participate in this project!

By the way, my website is here: http://greenresearch.com

The logo I select will appear on that site along with my business cards and any documents such a PowerPoints I create.

It's worth noting that I may need some help down the line extending the chosen logo to those other mediums, so there may be a follow up request after this one. Thanks.
