Creative brief

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

We are a Kindergarten-8th grade non-profit private school in Asheville, North Carolina. We have been in business for four years and we have 70 kids enrolled. For more info about us go to our website: www.thenewclassicalacademy.org

Our mission:
To provide an intellectual community for both parent and child through a classical education in a hands-on environment, thereby creating the democratic citizens of tomorrow, today.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

A logo that can be used in print ads and on bumper stickers and business cards. We must be able to use it alone or with the words "The New Classical Academy" in our font which is NewText ITC Book.

We already have a mascot for the kids which is a griffin. This is what we have on t-shirts for the kids to wear. This is playful and we feel it is only appropriate for the kids. We don't use it in any other forms.

We will also use the new logo on school uniform shirts (over the left breast on collared shirts).

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Parents of school age children who are interested in a high level academic education in an environment of fun and hands-on projects. Our parents are mostly professionals who were well educated themselves.

WE LIKE THESE DESIGNS:

Our font is called NewText ITC Book.

We would like the design to incorporate a pythagorean spiral. We chose this spiral (rather than the more common logarithmic spiral) because it is based on the number 3 and classical education is based on the trivium (grammar, logic and rhetoric stages). We like the connection it has to classical Greece. Also it is a very mathematically complex image juxtaposed with a very playful one. It ties in with our school philosophy of young kids growing and as they grow still being connected to each other. It is simple, and shows the relationship between math and the arts. Finally it is cyclical, which relates to how we teach history and science and literature in a four year rotation.

See attached example of this type of spiral. Please note that it is NOT the golden ratio or nautilus style spiral.




WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

We do not want anything too complicated that is hard to explain or difficult to print or decipher. Our school colors are navy blue and bright orange. The logo should be at most two colors.

We do not want any abbreviations used (such as TNCA).

We want to see crisp, clean, sophisticated and professional designs, please. No cartoons or whimsical designs.

PLEASE no generics or clip arts.
