LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

"Jewelry Merchandising Solutions" (JMS) is a new venture that will provide services to retail jewelery stores and multi-store retail chains.

The services will include physical jewelry displays and their contents. The jewelry will be fine jewelry - gold and diamond jewelry or platinum and diamond jewelry. Retails will likely be $1000 - $10,000.

"Live Catalog" will be the consumer brand that will attach to the jewelry display and marketing material so in effect, this will be the "consumer brand."

The business venture will break rules and offer a completely new business model and shopping experience. Because of this, it is important that the logos communicate innovation while simultaneously communicating safety and comfort. The business model will already take people out of their comfort zone - we want consumers to feel reassured that their purchase is high quality, safe, etc.

For obvious reasons, it makes sense to develop both the corporate and consumer brand identities in harmony with one another. This does not mean that both logos will necessarily be used together - they probably will not be. But having them inhabit the same universe design-speaking is important.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We need a logo for "Jewelry Merchandise Solutions" spelled out and initials JMS. We are not yet sure which is going to be the primary identity.
We need a logo for "Live Catalog" spelled out.
We need stationary and envelope designed for the JMS logo only.
Logos must work both in color and B&W


OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

The target audience for the "JMS" logo will be the decision-makers in national and regional chains - think Macy's, Zale, Costco, etc.

The target audience for the "Live Catalog" logo will be consumers.

I want to encourage designers to do something OTHER than simply play with the 3 initials JMS. Because we need a distinctive logo that is jewelry specific and communicates elegance, luxury, and innovation, we cannot simply use 3 initials to communicate that.

So, in summary, although the 3 initials are clearly necessary, they are not sufficient. Some other graphic, idea, element, to communicate both the emotion and idea of jewelry is important.

After getting feedback from colleagues on designs so far, it appears that what my team likes most are modern designs that are somewhat abstract but that incorporate both stylized JMS letters PLUS some other design element, whether it is an abstracted diamond or abstracted piece of jewelry or SOMETHING else that is visually appealing.

Also, color seems to be important to my team - at least 2 colors that create an interesting and distinctive contrast.

Thanks to everyone who has made submissions for our project.

I will be meeting with my team Friday at 3pm Central Standard Time (GMT-6) to review all submissions. From that meeting we will select only a few finalists and give them final instructions.

The project ends on Sunday and we will meet on Monday to make our final selection.

If anyone has a completely new direction to experiment with, I would encourage you to post it.
