Sorry for the confusion; "bug" is an (apparently very old and obscure) advertising term for a graphic (non-type) element in a logotype. The "bug," in this case, is a capital (the fancy carved STONEwork at the top of a column), which is one of the very few non-geometric examples of a "cornerstone" which I encountered in my research.
