Jun Daiko is a taiko drumming group based in Mountain View, CA.

Jun Daiko was founded by a gathering of friends who began to practice informally at the Mountain View Buddhist Temple in 2005. The group formalized in 2007 and takes its name from the Japanese character used in the phrase "meguri ai," which means "a fortuitous, chance meeting.” Jun Daiko draws upon the experiences of its members, who have performed together in various combinations with the Kenny Endo Taiko Ensemble, Stanford Taiko, Zenshin Daiko, and Kona Daifukuji Taiko. In addition to public performances, Jun Daiko supports the taiko program Mountain View Buddhist Temple, teaching classes for youth and adults.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We need a logo that effectively conveys the unique origins of our group. This logo will become the basis of our entire suite of promotional materials (website, business cards, t-shirts, etc).

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

Potential clients/customers: They need to know what we do -- which is to perform taiko drums. A lot of people don't know what taiko drumming is, but if they see an image, they recognize it. We want to convey that we are an exciting performance art, and that we can perform for their evenst in a highly professional manner.

Our friends in the taiko community: There is a very large and active taiko community in North America. We have a lot of friends that we have known for years, and who we have played with in various contexts. They know that we're performing together as a group, but up until now it's been very informal... we are ready to present ourselves as a group with a proper "identity".

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

The logo should include the words "Jun Daiko".

The logo may also include the Japanese characters for "Jun Daiko" or just "Jun" (the first character). Please see the placeholder photo on our website for the proper characters: http://www.jundaiko.com

We do not have an exact color scheme, but our website shows the color of our costumes, which is a turquoise blue. We have another costume that is slightly lighter and greener. In general, we've been using colors that range between green and blue.

We do not want anything that looks too similar to our neighbor groups or the groups that we used to play with. Here are the links to those sites:

It is important to note the most unique aspect of our group is that we have all played together in the past, in different contexts. We are all seasoned taiko players who have been playing for many years, but this is a new combination that is allowing us to do new things together. The "jun" theme runs very deep throughout our group, so we are looking for symbolic imagery that conveys this concept (cycles, etc).
