Creative brief

LET ME TELL YOU ABOUT US:

Big Planet has been in business in St John since 1990. We sell clothing, sandals, swimwear, shades, etc from all the top surf brands.

HERE IS WHAT WE NEED:

We need a logo update. Cool, hip, surfy. We like the handwritten look, but we're not dead set on it. The logo may reference "planet" or island themes, but it's definitely not a must. The logo should be very simple. In addition to the "Big Planet" text it must have a mark that can be used in a variety of treatments for t-shirts. See links to Quiksilver, Billabong, and Volcom below for examples of marks we like. The mark must be very simple: something that could be made into a stencil or made very small like an iphone app logo.

OUR TARGET AUDIENCE IS:

St John is a little off the beaten path by Caribbean island standards. People who visit here tend to be pretty cool. Although our audience is mature, we're going for a young look. Think 40 something dad who's finally trading in those short-shorts for some cool boardshorts. Or yummy-mummy who rocks a Brazilian bikini.

This guy (maybe you've heard of him) did a ton of drawings for me, but nothing really worked. Lots of cool text but no mark. I really like the little stencil held up to the sun in this film though: http://www.davidcarsondesign.com/?dcdc=top/n&r=...

WE ABSOLUTELY MUST HAVE (or we don't want to see) THIS IN OUR DESIGN:

Absolutely NO: Tommy Bahama look, Jimmy Buffet style, rainbows, sunsets, palm trees, coconuts, seaplanes, cute dolphins or turtles or any of the BS Caribbean stuff you see everywhere. Make it smart please.
