Zello is for live public conversations -- like twitter radio. Or like a CB or ham radio mobile app.
No, the project is naming two features.
Broad based and global. Kids, old people, men and women. Usually under median education with free time. Often lonely. People listen to channels as a substitute for radio or like to make friends and talk.
We are naming a set of features to filter and improve live public voice channels. We need at least two feature names:
1. A filter setting for family friendly channels or those including bad language. The filter is now called "Explicit" which incorrectly implies porn.
2. A new type of channel that requires moderator approval before talking. The channel is now called Restricted. This new channel type will restrict talking to the channel moderator for approval. Once approved all users on the channel can also hear the new user. The feature will reduce "trolls" who jump between channels to abuse others.
Zello is a new social media where our special value is a place for live public conversations.
You'll want to first try Zello on your iPhone or Android. To see Trending channels add Russian language to your profile.
Channels often have bad words, many are still interesting, some become hateful. We need a word to say the channel is not family friendly. If a real radio station it would not be broadcast over the air. But we don't want to imply porn, it's often the kind of talk you might hear in a bar or on the street. We want to avoid children or anything that could be associated with child abuse.
These other related terms are used (we welcome suggestions for the others)
"Open" - anyone listen, anyone can talk
"Broadcast "- anyone listen, only the moderator can talk
"Restricted" - anyone listen, can only talk to moderator until approval [looking to rename this]
"Password" - requires a password to talk or listen
Other features are a Channel "Admin" who can appoint "Moderators". Moderators or Admins can "Block" users from the Channel.
Regarding the filter/setting we've tried a few alternatives like 18+ but these too imply porn. Other sites use "Sensitive" or "Safe" but these don't communicate the nature of the risk. Because the system is dependent on flagging and at any moment someone may be offensive, none are actually ever safe.
