We have developed a percutaneous (inserted through the skin) heart pump that will support patients who have failing hearts. It works by directly pumping blood out of the heart and into the systemic circulation, thereby improving blood pressure and the delivery of oxygenated blood to the body. Frequently this device will be used in life-or-death situations. The device is a high-end technology, used only by highly-skilled physicians in the catheterization lab or operating room.
There are several existing technologies that do not deliver sufficient blood flows to support these patients. We believe our technology is differentiated by its high flow rates, low profile design, and rapid insertion. These features should lead to better patient outcomes and lower rates of adverse events.
