Jeff Huston LLC
I am an independent artist on the verge of releasing my debut EP (8 Songs). An EP is basically a short album with 5-8 songs. My musical genre is R&B/Pop/Soul and I plan on being a huge success in this industry! I have a modest following at this point, but this project will definitely be heavily promoted and get in front of a lot of people.
1600 X 1600 (CD Cover Front and Back)
The primary target audience for my print design are music fans ages 12-25, primarily a female demographic, but should still be appealing to males also.
The name of this debut EP is No Love Lost. The EP is basically a story of myself finding a woman and entering into a relationship and then the relationship falling apart. But then she wants to get back with me after I go on to have success.
I want to communicate to people that this is a story that progresses. I have an idea of how to accomplish this. I explain the idea I have in further detail later on.
I like clean, crisp, professional design. I am not a flashy person overall, less is more. but I want the CD cover to be captivating.
I believe the font color should be white/silver or gold or possibly white/silver for the top line (Jeff Huston) and then fading from white/silver to black at the bottom (No Love Lost) EP Name . And the picture frame can be either black/silver/gold or some combination. If you need an accent color for any reason, use red.
I am thinking I'd like to stick to black/gold/white/silver/red. not necessarily all of them but any combination using 2-3 of them is cool.
This will be a huge tool we use to promote the EP online and on print fliers as well and on physical CDs. These designs will be used for the front and the back of the CD packaging and often times online I will have them side by side similar to how Drakes latest CD (nothing was the same) cover was marketed. You often saw the image of him older attached to the image of him as a child. I plan on doing the same thing with these two images. See below for more details
The idea I have for the CD Cover is to have the photo I have attached (Jeff_0059.jpg) as a photo in a picture frame. You will have to zoom in and crop the photo and rotate it so it is not slanted. I would like the photo to be straight and cropped similar to some of the other designs I have attached. I would like the frame to be somewhat basic, not an extravagant frame, but something that clearly looks like a picture frame. This front cover is to represent love and a relationship. For example **My girlfriend would have this picture frame of me in her room.** My name (Jeff Huston) and the EP Name (No Love Lost) will need to be on the front cover. I personally like having my name at the top and the ep name at the bottom, but I am open to different placements.
For the back cover, I would like to have this same picture in a frame and same text placement (Jeff Huston and No Love Lost), but this time the glass in the picture frame is cracked, which represents the relationship has fallen apart. For example **My girlfriend took the picture and slammed it on the ground cracking the frame and wants nothing to do with me anymore.** I do not want the glass to be shattered, ideally it would looked more cracked similar to the crackedframe2.jpg. There does not need to be an area where the glass is missing like that attachment and also there does not need to be as many cracks as the attachment, but the way those cracks look is what I would like. 50% less cracks and no missing glass piece would be ideal. The main thing is to make it look as realistic as possible.
The problem we have been having thus far is that designers haven't been able to make the cracked glass look real enough. It looks fake.
I have attached 3 other album covers (2 are bad designs we are unhappy with and won't use -- NLLback.jpg and EPCover1_1600.jpg) and the 3rd is 50 cents debut album cover (50cent.jpg) which has him behind glass with a bullet hole. His came out looking good and realistic. I don't want a bullet hole look, but we want to emulate that real look of cracked glass as much as possible with our concept.
