Creative brief

The buyer added updates to the brief. Read them.

Business Name

Ognite Flameless Candle

What do you do?

The product is an electronic candle kit. It comes packaged in a small matchbox that becomes the battery holder and base of the assembled product. The retail price is $5.

How many pages of print design do you need?

1

List the size requirement(s) for your print design

I am looking for packaging graphics to be printed on the outside of the matchbox. The top and bottom of the box are 2" x 1 3/8". There are two box sides, each measuring 1 3/8" x 3/8". See attached photo of box.

What is your industry?

Describe the target audience for your print design

Retail customer

What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your print design?

Simple, utilitarian, anachronistic, retro.

What print design styles do you like?

Think historic matchbox covers that tried to make the most impact with the limited graphic tools and printing technologies they had available. Photos of a few examples attached.

What colors do you want to see in your print design?

The design is going to be printed on the matchbox with a laser cutter, so the color is dark brown burnmark on a background of the light brown cardboard.

For this reason, the design should be a thin 0.002" path hairline, with no solid fill. You can use line patterns like stripes or hashes as fill as line as they are not so dense that the material will burn. A good rule of thumb is to keep adjacent lines far enough apart that they are distinctly visible to the naked eye at about 24".

What colors do you NOT want to see in your print design?

Any color as long as it is dark brown. :)

What adjectives should best describe your print design?

Simple, playful, anachronistic.

How will you use the print design?

On the cover of the retail packaging. Would also be great if I could use parts of the design as a logo on the web site, but packaging is the thrust of this project now.

What content must be included in the print design?

Should contain the text "The Ognite Flameless Candle" (not necessarily in a single contiguous block) on the box top, and maybe similar text or logo on the box sides. Product is brand new with no brand or identity yet, so very open to any ideas on layout, additional graphics, actual text, or anything. Also open to having a stylized or abstract visual representation of the product on the packaging.

IMPORTANT UPDATES:

1) I got box side dimensions mixed up. The sides are 3/8" tall by 2" long. Sorry.
2) Would be great to also get the word "KIT" on the cover or sides.

Thanks for all the great submissions!
