TEXT ELEMENTS
1. Name of spice or herb

DO NOT USE LOREM IPSUM IN YOUR DESIGN – See the attached example to get an idea of the length of text for each section. That will give you an accurate sense of how much space to allot and font sizes you can use.

Brief updates

7-May-13 10:11 p.m. GMT
Several people have asked about size and other technical issues:

The standard postcard size is 6 x 4.25 inches.

Also, we will ultimately use Adobe Illustrator to edit our template, so the final deliverable should be in .ai format, but the contest uploads can be PDF, JPG etc.

Images should be greater than 300 ppi, and otherwise the file should be vector based as much as possible.

Any fonts should be fair use, and disclosed upon reward (we don't want to have to buy fonts, and would rather not try to find substitutes).

Thanks,
Michael

Hi Everybody,
A quick message - we've been reviewing the submissions and there are a couple key points of feedback:

Please include OUR LOGO.

The TASTE PAIRING / QUICK TASTE section is very important. The cards are not supposed to be merely informational - they are meant to be a CALL TO ACTION. We want to make the experience of sampling / trying new spices to be super easy & accessible. So when someone glances at the card, of course there is info about the spice, but one thing that will jump out (or that their eye will be lead to) is "here's a quick way to try this flavor without cooking a big dish". For example, put a Basil leaf on a tomato. Or, put some Dill on a cucumber slice. Or soak some Saffron in milk. Or sprinkle some Sumac on yogurt. Or sprinkle some Paprika on your French fries...

It's all about getting into the flavor experience more easily by mixing the spice with a single food.

One more - please only show naked spices (not in bottles or other packaging).

Thanks!
Michael

Hi Everybody,
Thanks for your hard work so far - we really appreciate it!

I just finished rating all the submissions and sending comments to everyone. I wish you could read everyone's comments, but I guess these are private. Here are a few more key points to think about:

We like:
Dimensionality
Clean layout with a hierarchy
Whole Foods urban foodie style
Taste Explorer section should pop - that is the call to action
Our logo on the creative

We don't like:
Grandma / Betty Crocker old-style / cliche fonts
Color schemes that are too muted or seem like something that's already been in the supermarket for decades.
Overly busy / confusing layout / no clear idea where my eye should go

(You can pretty much get the idea from our star ratings)

Thanks,
Michael
