What 3 things would you like to communicate to your audience through your print design?
1. Motion - youth hockey (something flashy, colorful, edgy, youthful, but aggressive)
2. Edgy / scandalous (just a little bit - the author called certain people who didn't oppose body checking in PeeWee hockey "morons" in a blog article) - also, adults are the problem - they often get too serious with the kids - it should be all about the kids. One of the concepts throughout the book is that adults put on their "moron helmet" when in the youth hockey world. Another great concept would be a guy climbing up the boards of the hockey arena like Spider-Man, because the referee made a bad call... (The author pulled him back down - and this was at a 8-10 year olds hockey game!)
3. Clean but punchy design (Simplicity is key, but with a real punch of color, activity, use of font with the title, image or something that really makes the design punchy.

Bright, edgy. Mix of masculine & feminine. Bold white, yellows, oranges. Want women to be drawn to cover, but men be attracted to it as well.

Feminine colors like pink, pastels are probably not great, but don't want to rule them out either.

What we would like to say to all of you:
1. We haven't seen many really edgy font-based covers - we don't necessarily need images on the cover!
2. We haven't seen many covers with in-your-face colors - we are looking for ELECTRIC designs, so don't hesitate to step out on a limb!

- Here is a little inspiration for everyone!! This was in the news over the last few days. Our author has been forwarding me these posts online, because they are right in line with what he talks about in the book. Crazy adults who put on their "moron helmet" when their kid is on the ice.

- Okay, so here's my last message! We are still looking for more ideas! I have provided feedback to every single design, and I won't stop now!
Sme ideas that haven't been tried - and there are many more!
1. An "as seen on TV" kind of cover
2. Letterpress kind of looking covers, with hockey icon
3. Not a single pic of a full ice rink on any covers
4. Parents in the stands
5. Still the ideal cover - a man trying to climb the wall of the ice rink, and another man pulling him back down... My author did this - and called the guy Spider-Man.
6. A simple helmet with "MORON" scratched into it
7. Hockey puck with the same
8. I haven't seen one guy who REALLY looked like a hockey dad... A normal guy who does crazy stuff irrationally near the hockey rink
9. Happy picture of a dad & son on rink
10. Other happier cover concepts with splash of color, happy characters. The title is edgy enough, and warrants a picture of something contrasting!

I realize that I said the last message was my last, but I realize we have much more time on the clock! So please keep the designs coming, if you have more ideas, or want to polish!
I will start going through and asking you to create full spread covers with front, back, spine, and dust jacket flaps. But if you want to gets started, please do!
We are looking for a clean back with a couple of quotes, an author bio, and space for the barcode etc.
We might not use the flaps, but please include them for now. One should be author bio, and the other about the book.

- I just heard from the author, and he has a new stipulation. He doesn't want the cover to have only a child on the front - it might imply that the child is a moron, which he doesn't want to do!
