crowdSPRING Named Finalist for ITA CityLIGHTS Award

Online marketplace for creative services up for Newcomer of the Year recognition

    CHICAGO, IL - 8-Apr-09 GMT-

crowdSPRING, an online marketplace for creative services, today announced the company has been named a finalist for an Illinois Technology Association CityLIGHTS award, in the Newcomer Award category.

The Newcomer Award is presented to the company that has the strongest potential to emerge from its start-up phase to become a solid presence in the technology marketplace. Nominees are judged on the following criteria. The award winner must:

Be a start-up (less than three years old); Have at least $1 million in annual revenue; Have exhibited some early inroads in developing a sustainable business model; Have established revenues or early funding from recognized funding sources; Provide a unique service or product offering; Demonstrate solid management capabilities; Offer a compelling and innovative perspective on a marketplace; Show the opportunity to build a business on technology; and Demonstrate community and industry involvement.

Launched in May 2008, crowdSPRING is an online marketplace for buyers and sellers of creative services. Buyers who need a new logo, website, marketing materials or other creative content simply post what they need, when they need it and how much they want to pay. Once posted, more than 20,000 creatives from around the world will submit actual work – not bids or proposals – for the buyer to review. As the submissions come in, buyers are able to review, sort, rate, provide feedback and collaborate with creatives until they find the “the one.” crowdSPRING was founded on three core principles: offer buyers choice, give creatives a level playing field, and protect intellectual property for all. The crowdSPRING model takes the risk out of buying creative services by offering buyers choice up front – actual designs to choose from instead of bids or proposals. The crowdSPRING marketplace empowers an underground, underdog creative community and levels the playing field by allowing creatives – whether established professional or talented newcomer – to compete solely on the basis of their talent. crowdSPRING also protects the intellectual property of all parties by offering completely free, customized written legal agreements for every transaction.

“We’re thrilled to be acknowledged by an organization we deeply respect,” said Mike Samson, co-founder of crowdSPRING. “We look at ourselves as a little fish in a very big pond of an extremely talented and successful tech community and feel honored to be able to participate in the cityLIGHTS event. Winning this award would be a great accomplishment for us as it would give us a little excitement knowing we’re starting to make a name for ourselves and gain support in our own community.”

For the first time ever, members of Illinois’ technology community are invited to cast their vote to help determine the winners. Voting is available through the event Web site at http://www.itacitylights.com and limited to ITA association members and gala attendees. Voting is open now and closes at 11:59pm on April 8, 2009.

ITA will present the awards, which honor outstanding information technology companies, executives and advocates in Illinois, to the winners at ITA’s 10th annual CityLIGHTS Gala on April 23 at Union Station in Chicago. All Illinois companies and executives are invited to attend the event, which is the largest gathering of technology executives in the state.

“Year after year, CityLIGHTS nominees continue to raise the bar,” said Fred Hoch, president of ITA. “We wish all of our finalists the best of luck as ITA members vote to choose this year’s winners.”

ITA CityLIGHTS finalists are selected by a group of judges who represent various sectors of Illinois’ business community. ITA selected the judges based on their experience in the field and ability to fairly evaluate each entry.
