Crash House! is a theater project initiated by a playwriting major at Eastern Mennonite University. In summer 2008, the first session, Pam Mandigo and Heidi Winters Vogel, chair of the Theater Department, led a group of high school students in studying Shakespeare’s Othello, reading it together, and then taking it apart. Next, they rebuilt the play in their own voices, using their own stories. The goal is a new play that will be performed in the students' communities.
In designing the logo, Pam and Heidi wanted to convey both a sense of an exciting, adventurous project, and a sense that this program would offer a safe space for the students to explore. The result was a house that is crashing about, but clearly not falling apart -- animated, activated, but sturdy.
