Just a bit too late to enter this bid, my concept I think was nevertheless golden. Using the frame of the star to encompass the initials of the company (with 'A' taking the lower two points and 'P' just jutting out the right with one point) seemed a simple and elegant design which added the extra dimension of association between 'star' and 'american'
