A laptop case used to open a channel of discussion about a material that is just now gaining recognition in the United States.
Paulownia is an amazing hardwood that grows quickly, is lightweight and strong (more so than balsa) and can be sustainably harvested in a variety of climates. Switching to Paulownia instead of more traditionally used hardwoods could help curb our constant destruction of forests to meet growing demand.
Initial pink foam models were used to explore form and dimension. I used Autodesk Alias (CAD) to create a computer file that could CNC a blank of Paulownia. The entire case is put together without chemical adhesives.
