An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 on the Richter scale hit Chile on Saturday February 27, 2010. United Nations assessment teams are reporting that the disaster has affected 80 percent of Chile’s population. In addition to the earthquake, about 125 miles of Chile’s coast was hit by a tsunami that completely devastated several coastal communities.
Concerned citizens in Calgary immediately held a meeting and came together to see what they could do to provide emergency relief and help rebuild Chile. Realizing that more could be accomplished by working together, ‘Together for Chile’ was formed. As a collective group, ‘Together for Chile’ is better able to provide focused support for each fundraiser. Together for Chile is now working on a long term Rebuilding project and will be raising funds for the construction of a school as well as will be building an entire community of houses.
Our marketing campaign will focus on fundraising for families and the children of chile. We have decided to continue this legacy of helping families and the children of chile even after the catastrophe is over.
